Pope Francis, who has been fighting pneumonia and bronchitis for more than three weeks, has been a “good answer” to treatment, said the Vatican.
“The clinical condition of the Holy Father has remained stable in recent days and therefore shows a good response to treatment,” the Vatican said.
“Therefore, there is a gradual, slight improvement,” she added.
The 88-year-old prays on Saturday morning at the chapel of Papal apartment in the hospital in Rome Gemeliwhere it is treated.
The Argentine hinges have not been observed in public since entering the hospital, its longest section of the public eye, as its papacy began 12 years ago.
He was admitted to hospital on February 14 after having difficulty breathing – and first treated for bronchitis before being diagnosed with pneumonia in both lungs.
It is particularly vulnerable to pneumonia, infection of the lungs, which can be caused by bacteria, viruses or fungi, after it has become infected with pleurisy – inflammation of the lungs – as a young person and there was partial removal of the lungs.
Pope’s doctors believe he is likely to face a long way to recover because of his age and medical history.
